MLJET   (map)

Legend has it that Ulysses was forced to land on this island, where he was captured by Calypso. At the time, the island was reportedly populated by nymphs and Ulysses is said to have spent 7 years here.

Though the island’s monuments and ruins date to Illyrian and Roman times, no solid evidence of nymphs has yet been uncovered. What we do know is that today, Mljet is 90% covered in forest spread upon a landscape of limestone and karst. Points of interest on this pleasant Adriatic island include a Benedictine Monastery dating from the 12th century, and also Mljet National Park.
